On-page SEO refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized as well.

On-page SEO consists of all the elements of SEO you can control best. If you own a website, you can control the technical issues and the quality of your content. We believe on-page issues should all be tackled as they’re in your own hands.

On-page SEO Checklist

Below is an On-page SEO checklist that will bring in more search engine traffic from every piece of content you publish on your website.

1. Use SEO Friendly URLs

Avoid ugly URLs. Make your page’s URL short and Keyword Rich:
Bad URL: seoservices.london/12-04-18/category/pagetitle
Optimized URL: seoservices.london/your-keyword

2. Begin Title With Keyword

Your title tag is the most important on-page SEO factor. The closer the Keyword is to the front of the title tag, the more weight it has with search engines such as Google

3. Add Modifiers To Your Title

Adding modifiers to your title such as “top”, “2018”, “checklist and “review” can help your webpage rank for long tail  and related keywords of your target keywords.

4. Wrap Your Page or Blog Post in an H1 Tag.

The H1 tag is your headline tag. Make sure when you start writing your content you wrap initial starting title in H1 tags.

5. Add Engaging Content

Engaging images, videos and infographics can reduce the bounce rate and increase time on site.

6. Wrap Subheadings in H2 Tags

Neatly laid out content is important. They allow users to see important sections of a website which they can skip straight to. Make sure to include your target keyword in at least one subheading.

7. Place Your Keyword Within the First 100 Words

Your keyword should appear in the first 100 words of the article. Preferably it should be within the first sentence of the first paragraph.

8. Responsive Design

Mobile is the worlds leading device. If your site isn’t optimized for mobile than you’re in trouble. Google starting penalizing mobile unfriendly sites in 2015.

9. Use Outbound Links

Outbound links to related pages is a relevancy signal that helps Google figure out your pages’ topic. When you write content reference to other authoritative websites that are relevant to your topic.

You will see key selections on this page which are linking to other websites.

10. Internal Links

Add 2-3 internal links to every page linking to relevant parts of your website that could help the person on your website find what they’re looking for.

11. Boost Site Speed

No one wants to wait 10 seconds for a page to load. This isn’t 1999 and all we have is dial-up. A slow website provides a poor experience.  Compress images, use cache plugins, optimize your code and switch to faster hosting to help increase your website speed.

12. Add LSI Keywords

LSI keywords are synonyms Google uses to determine a page’s relevancy. If you’re stuck on ideas. Just go to Google paste in your keyword and hit search.

Scroll to the bottom of the search page. At the bottom, you will see a list of related keywords Google provides. Add a couple of these into your content.

13. Image Optimisation

When you’re adding images to your web page, make sure at least one of them includes your target keyword example, on-page-seo.jpg as well adding your keyword in the images Alt Text.

Optimising your images for SEO provides the search engine more clues on the topic of your page.

14. Use Social Sharing Buttons.

This is a no-brainer. We’ve been using social media for well over a decade. When your content is shared on social media, this brings social signals. Whether or not this contributes to your overall ranking it’s highly recommended to share your content.

15. Write and Post Long Content

Longer content tends to rank significantly higher on Google’s first page. The minimum is 300 words but we urge you to write 1000+ if you can.

More content increases your chances of ranking not only for your keyword but related keywords which enable you to generate more traffic.
